Terms of use
The rules we both agree to.
Plain-English terms for using CloseKin.
Who CloseKin is for
- CloseKin is for young people aged 13 or over and their parent or legal guardian.
- A parent confirms they are the guardian and that the young person is 13 or over before an invite code is created. The young person confirms their own age before joining.
- If you are under 13, please do not use CloseKin. If we learn an account belongs to a child under 13, we close it and delete its data.
Acceptable use
- Use CloseKin to talk with each other honestly and kindly.
- Do not use it to pressure, threaten, shame or coerce the other person.
- Do not share other people's private information, or anything illegal.
- Either person can report a concern or leave the connection at any time, from Profile.
CloseKin is not monitoring
- CloseKin cannot see location, messages, browsing or screen time. It only ever contains what you both choose to write in it.
- Answers stay sealed until both people have replied. Nobody, including a parent, can read an answer early.
CloseKin is not a crisis service
- We do not monitor answers and cannot respond to emergencies.
- If you or someone else is at risk of harm, contact Childline (0800 1111), Samaritans (116 123) or call 999.
Ending your account
- You can delete your account at any time from Profile. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts someone at risk.
Liability
- CloseKin is provided as-is, as a conversation aid. It is not therapy, counselling or medical advice.
- Nothing here limits our liability where the law does not allow it to be limited.
Contact
- Questions about these terms, or a safeguarding concern: hello@myclosekin.app.
CloseKin is a conversation space for families aged 13 and over. It is not a monitoring tool, not a crisis service, and not a substitute for professional help. In an emergency, call 999.
